Proven, steady leadership.

My name is Malcolm Graham — and I want a Charlotte that has possibilities for all.

For the over 30 years I’ve lived in this city, I’ve been focused on making Charlotte affordable, accessible, equitable, and livable for every one of our citizens. My professional and public service career has been firmly rooted at the intersection of urban development and planning, community engagement, and social justice.

For a long time, Charlotte has been the “tale of two cities.” We’re divided into the haves — and the have-nots. I’m working hard to do away with that notion. Charlotte can be a place for all of us — as long as we take the time to listen to each other, show up for one another, and do the work that’s needed for all of us to succeed.

Important Issues & Priorities

As a current member of the Charlotte City Council, these are the issues I’ve prioritized to make sure I’m making good on my promise to make Charlotte a great place to live, work, and play:

Corridors of Opportunity

Vibrant and resilient corridors are the foundations of our city’s neighborhoods. I helped to secure $24.5 million in city funds to invest in six key corridors — filling gaps in infrastructure, transportation, housing, business development, and public safety — making sure they’re beautiful, safe, and prosperous places where families can build on their futures.

Community Safety

The death of George Floyd — and the controversial protest incident that followed in our city — is another reason for police reform and violence prevention strategies in Charlotte. I support rerouting responsibilities — and budget — from our police department into community-based programs that are already tackling the systemic issues that lead to violent crime.

Affordable Housing

Everyone in Charlotte deserves to have a comfortable and affordable place to call home. Our city’s lack of affordable housing has always been an issue, and it’s an issue I’ve worked hard on — from evaluating the use of Housing Trust Fund dollars and executing housing bonds to creating programs to assist affordable housing developers.

About Me

I was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, but I’ve called Charlotte home since I came to the city to attend Johnson C. Smith University on a tennis scholarship. My goal has always been to make our city a better place to live, work, and play.

My professional experiences and public service has taken me through West Charlotte neighborhoods, corporate boardrooms, and legislative halls at the city and state level.
